Collective Autonomy

Image:Coll_aut_logo.jpg The Collective Autonomy Network (CAN) facilitates people participating in the movement to collectively take care of each other's basic needs for a fulfilling life including Food, Shelter, Health, Resources, Information, and Community.

The CAN intends to pro-actively create this movement by directly addressing issues in our society, creating practical and effective projects to positively affect these issues, and spread the information and resources that make it easy for communities to implement these creative solutions (e.g: Really Really Free Markets, Infoshops, Food Not Bombs, Guerrilla Gardens, Community Acupuncture Network, Brydum Tandem Project NOLA, and many others).

The CAN is an intentionally decentralized movement that can use everybody's help. It predominately exists in the real people and projects in our streets and gardens, while this online portion serves as a resource to support that work. Please take part building this movement in your own communities while describing your progress on this website so others can benefit from your successes while helping alleviate your challenges.

List of CAN Principles

How to participate in Building Collective Autonomy:

Since the CAN is both a real physical network with projects to be worked on in every community as well as an online resource, there are wide variety of roles that can be filled by all sorts of people. Please consider what you roles best fit your talents and interests and start participating.
Current priorities for Building Collective Autonomy include:

  • Finding key community organizers that can help coordinate and facilitate the development of CAN projects in their home communities and find people who want to add their community's information to the CAN website.
  • Finding travelers and community point people to help build and maintain connections between the various communities.
  • People to take part in building up the online resource of the CAN by helping add new content, further developing existing content, and help designing the site.

For a full list of available roles and resources for participating please click on Building Collective Autonomy and start contributing to the site, or contact us at can [at] riseup [dot] net to discuss the roles you want to take up.

Featured News

Saturday morning, Sept 27, Kirsten Brydum was fatally shot in New Orleans. She was a prolific activist in San Francisco who inspired and empowered countless people throughout her work with The Really Really Free Market, the Access Cafe, and here as Co-founder of Collective Autonomy. Kirsten was visiting New Orleans as part of a cross country tour promoting this very purpose. Her death leaves an entire community in mourning and her loss will be deeply felt for a long time to come. Her love and light continue to breathe inspiration and dedication into all of our lives. A memorial site has been created in her honor (click on the [1])

Please use this wiki as an addition to the physical realm of support... a space to come together and mourn her loss. Post your pictures, your memories, and your love for her here in Tribute to Kirsten Brydum.
